Chocolate syrup is a chocolate flavoured condiment. It is often used as a topping for various desserts, such as ice cream or mixed with milk to make chocolate milk. Chocolate syrup is also topped onto puddings. A very simple chocolate syrup can be made from unsweetened cocoa powder, sugar and water. Recipes may also include other ingredients such as corn syrup, malt, and flavourings like vanilla extract.

Ingredients

  • cups water
  • cups white sugar
  • 1 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 dash salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Recipe Instructions

  • Combine the water, sugar, cocoa powder, and salt together in a saucepan over low heat; whisk constantly until the mixture thickens and begins to simmer.
  • Remove from heat and stir the vanilla into the sauce.
  • Serve warm or cover and refrigerate until serving.
